LOCATION:  Central Office          

DEPARTMENT:  Pupil Services

SUPERVISOR: Assistant Director of Schools for Pupil Services

OBJECTIVE: To support the Sumner County School District’s staff in using the principles of applied behavior analysis

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform observations and assessments relevant to the design of positive interventions and supports for students
  • Participate as an interdisciplinary team member in individual planning meetings, completing functional behavioral assessments, developing and monitoring behavior support plans
  • Assist staff in completing skill assessments
  • Assist staff in gathering and analyzing data to assist in determining appropriate behavioral and educational interventions/supports
  • Conduct staff and parent training on applied behavior analysis
  • Provide ongoing behavior analysis consultation to staff to enable staff members to develop skills necessary to analyze the potential causes of behavior problems and to effectively implement programs to modify the behaviors.
  • Assist the autism team in developing and reviewing programs for students with autism who receive direct behavioral intervention
  • Participate in professional development activities by attending workshops and conferences, reading current research and professional literature, and disseminating information gathered as a result of these activities
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Schools for Pupil Services

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Must hold Board Certification in Behavior Analysis; Minimum of three year experience as a BCBA; Experience in educational settings is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, presentations, general correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in written and verbal form and respond to questions from students, parents, other employees, the Board of Education, and general public.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Ability to effectively work on computer; working knowledge of e-mail, word processing, internet, spreadsheet, graphing, and presentation software packages; and basic skills in using document scanner, projecting, and printing devices.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to work with data, graphs, and charts

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a wide variety of reports related to educational and medical issues related to special education.

The position involves a dual role as a clinical faculty and practicum supervisor. Responsibilities include teaching courses as needed; coordinating field placement for practicum students, supervising practicum students individually and in small groups; collaborating across other disciplines as necessary; contributing to the growth of our autism clinic, and developing and maintaining consulting and outreach services with the community.
